Breastfeeding or Bottle, Your Mom Bod is Amazing!

By: Nancy Dillon

The Mommy Wars have been raging for too long. Breastfeeding vs Bottle Feeding. Breast Milk vs Baby Formula. Stay-at-home Moms vs Career Moms.

As Mother’s Day approaches, let’s put down our weapons and celebrate what we all have in common: our glorious Mom Bods.

That’s right.

I’m a mom. I have a body. I have a Mom Bod.

You’re a mom? You have a body? Congratulations, you have a Mom Bod too!

 Amamzing Mom Bod

Short or tall, big or small, our Mom Bods are amazing precisely because of what they represent. Those Mom Bods housed and nourished our little ones and then provided them safe passage into the world!

We don’t say this enough to each other, “Your Mom Bod is fabulous just the way it is”!

If you could speak to your eighty year-old self (or Channing Tatum), they’d tell you how beautiful you look.

Beautiful Mom Bod

Why are Mom Bods so amazing?

  1. They embraced the storm of childbirth and kept on sailing.

  2. Unlike Dad Bods, they can be celebrated for more than eating pizza and drinking beer.

  3. Each Mom Bod is different. Isn’t that something to celebrate?!

  4. You have to admit there is something fun about having bigger boobs (temporarily).

Some moms are really into fitness and want to get back to the gym as soon as they leave the hospital. Others couldn’t care less about their squishy belly and would rather watch Downton Abbey. Both approaches are okay as long as they are safe and healthy for mom and baby. The last thing new moms need is additional pressure to return quickly to their pre-baby bods.

I think new mom Zooey Deschanel gets it right when she says:

"To expect someone to look like her pre-baby self immediately is odd," the actress explained. "Because you just grew a human and then birthed that human — there's a lot that needs to go back to where it was. All your organs move around, for chrissakes!"

So whether you’re nursing or pumping at work, breastfeeding or bottle feeding, heading to the gym or to the couch, I hope you’ll join me in celebrating Mom Bods of every shape and size.

Happy Mom Bod Day!

Yay Mom Bod
